Rising gracefully amid central Tirana's architectural blend, the Et'hem Bey Mosque stands as a testament to Albanian identity. Construction began in the late 18th century by Molla Bey and was completed in the early 19th century by his son, Haxhi Et'hem Bey. The mosque's frescoes, depicting landscapes, are a rarity in Islamic art. The mosque's architectural complex includes the Clock Tower of Tirana. The mosque is made of the chapel, portico on the north and east part of the mosque, and the minaret. The prayer hall has a square plan covered by a dome. The portico is decorated with landscapes.Closed during communist rule, the mosque reopened in 1991 when 10,000 people gathered and carried flags in defiance of the authorities. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of religious harmony. Visitors are welcome daily, but must remove their shoes before entering. The mosque stands as a reminder of Albania's resilience and religious freedom.
