Discover more about Llogara Pass

Llogara Pass (Qafa e Llogarasë in Albanian) is a mesmerizing mountain pass located within the Ceraunian Mountains, along the Albanian Riviera. As part of Llogara National Park, established in 1966, it covers 10.1 square kilometers of diverse ecosystems. The pass connects the Dukat Valley in the north with Himarë in the south, offering panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and even the island of Corfu on clear days. The area has a rich history, with ancient trails suggesting use by Illyrians and Romans. Julius Caesar reportedly crossed the pass in 48 BC during the Roman Civil War. The pass divides the mountains into western and eastern ranges, with the western chains known as the Acroceraunian Mountains. The park is home to diverse flora and fauna, including pine, fir, and ash forests, as well as deer, wild boar, eagles, and woodpeckers. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, paragliding, and exploring the Flag Pine (Pisha e Flamurit), a unique wind-shaped tree. The Llogara Tourist Village offers family-friendly facilities, including the chance to meet deer. Restaurants along the pass serve traditional Albanian cuisine, such as yogurt with honey, lamb (Harapash), and mountain tea. The pass is accessible via the SH8 road, offering a scenic drive with viewpoints. While the new Llogara Tunnel shortens travel time, the original route remains a must-experience for its stunning views.
