Kuzum Baba, named after the Bektashi spiritual leader Sejjid Ali Sultan (also known as Father Kuzum), is a revered site with a rich history deeply intertwined with the Bektashi order, a Sufi sect known for its emphasis on love, tolerance, and community. Legend states that Kuzum Baba was beheaded at the Koçiut Pass but carried his head to the hill where he was buried. The shrine is located on a hill, approximately 30 meters above sea level, offering a natural terrace with breathtaking views.In the 1600s, a Bektashi tekke (temple) was constructed, flourishing in the 17th century until its destruction in 1826 by missionaries. The tekke served as a refuge in 1914 and a military outpost during World War II. Restored after 1945, it was closed in 1967 during a religious ban but reopened in 1992 and remains one of Albania's most important Bektashi centers.Visitors can enjoy panoramic views, explore the Bektashi temple, and experience the serene atmosphere. A restaurant with a terrace and playground is located near the shrine. The site is accessible via stairs or by car, though the path may be littered. Kuzum Baba provides a blend of cultural, spiritual, and natural beauty, making it a unique destination in Vlorë.
