Discover more about Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës

Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës, or the Tomb of Kapllan Pasha, is a significant historical landmark located in the center of Tirana. Constructed in 1817, this Muslim tomb (Türbe) is dedicated to Kapllan Pasha, a former ruler of Tirana in the early 19th century. The tomb is a Cultural Monument of the first category, recognized by the Albanian government in 1948. The tomb's architecture features a distinctive octagonal shape with eight carved stone columns resting on stone bases. The columns are topped with capitals adorned with plant motifs, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship of the era. These columns support arches, further enhancing the structure's elegance. The structure stands approximately 4 meters tall. Historically, the Kapllan Pasha Tomb was part of a larger cemetery complex associated with Tirana's first mosque, the Sylejman Pasha Mosque. This complex included six similar monumental tombs, but they were destroyed during World War II, leaving Kapllan Pasha's tomb as the sole survivor. Although Kapllan Pasha was initially buried here, his remains were later moved to Istanbul, Turkey. The tomb has undergone restoration efforts by the Municipality of Tirana. Today, Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës stands in contrast to the modern buildings surrounding it, serving as a reminder of Tirana's layered history.
