The hotel is built on the ruins of mansions once belonging to Ahmet Kurt Pasha, a powerful feudal leader. In 1764, he settled in Berat, and his properties became known as the most beautiful mansions in Albania. Stones from the ancient city of Apollonia, located 60 kilometers away, were used in their construction. The Mio family, who became the legitimate owners of part of the mansions in 1950, restructured the old house and transformed it into Hotel Mangalem' in 1991. Today, Mangalemi Hotel exemplifies the essence of Berat city, reflecting its traditions in architecture, cooking, and hospitality. The hotel is well-regarded for its traditional dishes and is known among insiders as "Tomi's hotel".
