Shkodër History Museum: A Journey Through Northern Albania's Past

Located in a beautifully restored traditional Shkodran house, the Shkodër History Museum, also known as the Oso Kuka Museum, provides a captivating journey through the history of Shkodër and the surrounding region. Originally established in 1947 as the "Folk Museum," the museum officially took its current form in 1949. In 1996, it was moved to its current location, the former residence of the patriot Oso Kuka. The museum's collections are diverse, encompassing artifacts from the Neolithic period to the late Middle Ages. The archaeology section features tools, household items, weapons, and other objects discovered in the Shkodër region. The ethnography section showcases traditional costumes, handicrafts, and items related to local life from the 18th to 20th centuries. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing Shkodër's role throughout various historical periods, from Illyrian settlements to Roman rule and the Ottoman era. The museum also highlights the city's cultural heritage, displaying examples of local craftsmanship and traditional folk attire. In the garden, a Roman tombstone and a Venetian stone well add to the historical ambiance.
