Walking
From the Gjirokastër Regional Bus Station, located in the lower part of the new town, the Old Town is approximately a 30-minute uphill walk. Follow the main road towards the city center and then continue uphill, following signs for the Old Town or 'Kalaja' (Castle). Be prepared for steep, cobblestone streets. Taxis are available from the bus station for around 300-400 Lek.
Public Transport
Local buses connect the new town with the historic center. Look for buses heading towards 'Qafa e Pazarit' (Bazaar area). A single fare costs approximately 30 Lek. The bus will drop you off near the entrance to the Old Bazaar, from where you can walk to most attractions.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Gjirokastër. A taxi ride from the Regional Bus Station to the Old Town typically costs between 300-500 Lek. Agree on the fare before starting your journey. Taxis can also be found near the city center and major hotels.
