Discover more about Port of Saranda

The Port of Saranda, or Porti i Sarandës, is more than just a transportation hub; it's a vibrant introduction to the city and the surrounding region. With a history dating back to the 1920s, the port has evolved from a small trading post to a bustling terminal serving both passengers and cargo. Initially, the port facilitated the exchange of goods with neighboring Greece and Italy. Over time, it expanded to accommodate larger ships, reflecting Albania's socio-economic development. In the 1960s, reinforced concrete piers were constructed, enabling the installation of loading mechanisms and welcoming ships of greater tonnage. During a period in 1939, the port was briefly named Porto Edda, in honor of Mussolini's daughter, during the Italian occupation. Today, the Port of Saranda primarily serves tourists, with approximately 90% of its passengers being visitors exploring the region. The port provides a range of facilities, including a ferry terminal for international arrivals and departures, customs clearance, car rental offices, and tour operators. From the port, visitors can easily access Saranda's main boulevard, city center, and transportation options to explore nearby attractions such as Butrint.
