Llixhat e Bënjës - A Natural Thermal Oasis

Llixhat e Bënjës Thermal Baths, located near the village of Bënjë in Albania, have been celebrated for centuries for their natural hot springs and therapeutic properties. The mineral-rich waters, averaging around 28–30°C (82–86°F), are believed to alleviate various ailments, including rheumatism, skin conditions, and respiratory issues. The baths consist of a series of man-made pools fed by geothermal springs, each with a unique mineral composition. One pool even features healing mud. The iconic Kadiut Bridge, an Ottoman-era stone arch built in 1760 by Ali Pasha of Tepelenë, spans the Langarica River, providing panoramic views of the Vjosa Valley and Nemërçka Mountains. Visitors can soak in the shallow pools near the bridge or venture upstream to discover quieter, terraced baths. The surrounding landscape offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the Albanian countryside. The village of Bënja, known for its stone houses and the restored Church of the Virgin Mary, is also worth a visit. While the baths are open year-round, the best times to visit are during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) for mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Arriving early in the morning is recommended to secure a good spot, especially during peak season.
