Discover more about Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës

Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës, or the Tomb of Kapllan Pasha, is a significant historical landmark located in the center of Tirana. Constructed in 1817, this Muslim Türbe (tomb) is dedicated to Kapllan Pasha, who governed Tirana in the early 19th century. It is a reminder of the city's Ottoman heritage. The tomb features a distinctive octagonal shape, with eight carved stone columns resting on stone bases and adorned with plant motifs. These columns support arches, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era. The structure stands approximately four meters high. Originally, the tomb was part of a larger cemetery complex associated with Tirana's first mosque, the Sylejman Pasha Mosque. This complex included six similar monumental tombs, but they were destroyed during World War II, leaving Kapllan Pasha's tomb as the sole survivor. Although Kapllan Pasha was initially buried here, his remains were later moved to Istanbul, Turkey. The Albanian government declared it a Cultural Monument of the first category in 1948. The Municipality of Tirana has restored the tomb. Today, Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës stands in contrast to the modern buildings surrounding it, serving as a reminder of Tirana's layered history.
