Tirana Park, officially known as the Grand Park of Tirana (Parku i Madh i Tiranës), is a cherished green space offering a respite from the urban environment. Covering approximately 289 hectares, the park provides a diverse landscape with around 120 species of trees, bushes, and flowers.Built between 1955 and 1956 based on a Bulgarian plan, the park was initially called the Gogo stable area. Later, it was known as the 'Park of Saint Procopius' after the Saint Procopius Church located within its boundaries. The park begins at the southern end of the Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, south of Skanderbeg Square.The park features an artificial lake constructed in 1955, which is a popular spot for fishing and swimming. Other attractions include the Botanical Garden, the Zoo, and a complex of swimming pools. An amphitheater hosts various cultural activities, especially during the summer months.The park also holds historical significance, containing memorials to British, Australian, and German soldiers who fell during World War II. It is also the final resting place of the Frashëri brothers, key figures in Albanian history, and Faik Konitza, a former Albanian Minister to Washington. In 2020, a Holocaust memorial was unveiled at the park's entrance, honoring Albanians who protected Jews during the Nazi era.The Royal Palace, located near Elbasan Street, is another notable feature. Although construction was started by Zog of Albania, it only served as a Royal Palace once, for the Italian King Victor Emmanuel III in 1941. Today, it is the official residence of the President of Albania.
