El Mechouar Palace, also known as the Zianide Royal Palace, is a significant historical landmark in Tlemcen, Algeria. Constructed in 1248 by Sultan Yaghmoracen Ibn Zian, founder of the Zianid dynasty, the palace served as the royal residence and seat of power for over three centuries. The name 'Mechouar' signifies a place for consultation, reflecting its role in governing the Sultan's affairs. Strategically located in the heart of Tlemcen, a city that thrived on trade routes connecting sub-Saharan Africa to the Mediterranean, El Mechouar Palace witnessed numerous battles and dynastic changes.
