Discover more about Papaseea Sliding Rocks

Papaseea Sliding Rocks is a natural water park located in Se'ese'e, in the Faleata District, a short drive from Apia. The site features a series of natural rock slides formed by the Papase'ea Stream cascading over volcanic rock. Over millennia, the water has smoothed the basaltic lava flows, creating natural slides and refreshing pools. The site includes multiple cascades and swimming holes. The uppermost pool is known as Le Telesa's Pool (O le Papa o Tuli), named after Telesa, the protector spirit of the pools. Legend says that Telesa and her spirit friends, or Teine Sa, would bathe here, and the pools were also visited by male spirits, or Manaia. The pools are divided into different sections, including the Men's Pool (O le Papa o Tamaloloa), the Children's Pool (O le Papa o Tamaiti), and the Women's Pool (O le Papa o Fafine), each offering varying depths and sizes. Visitors can slide down the rocks into the cool, clear pools below. The main slide is about 5 meters long, with smaller slides available for those seeking a gentler experience. The surrounding rainforest adds to the idyllic setting, making it a great spot for a picnic and a leisurely swim. It is advisable to visit during the dry season (May to October) when the water levels are lower and the slides are more accessible. However, it's always a good idea to check with locals to ensure there's enough water for sliding. The site is open Monday to Saturday, and a small entry fee is payable upon arrival.
