The walk is roughly 500 meters.

The Fagasā Pass Trailhead marks the beginning of the popular Mount 'Alava Trail, offering a rewarding hike through the National Park of American Samoa. The trail leads to the summit of Mt. 'Alava, the second-highest mountain on Tutuila Island, boasting an elevation of 1,610 feet (491 meters). Originally a dirt road constructed to service television transmitters in 1964, the trail has since been improved for hikers. The 7-mile round trip offers moderately challenging terrain, typically taking around three hours to complete. As you ascend, you'll be surrounded by a tropical Samoan rainforest teeming with diverse flora, fauna, and the chance to spot fruit bats and various bird species. Approximately halfway up, you'll pass by a banana and coconut plantation. From the summit, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Pago Pago Harbor, the northern and central parts of Tutuila Island, and on clear days, even the islands of Samoa and the Manu'a District. The area is steeped in Samoan culture and also features remnants of a World War II observation post.
