Discover more about Rec del Solà Trail

The Rec del Solà Trail offers a delightful blend of natural beauty and historical insight, tracing a route along a centuries-old irrigation canal that once watered the terraced fields of Andorra la Vella. The name 'Rec del Solà' itself translates to 'sunny canal,' aptly describing its location on the sun-drenched side of the valley. Built in 1893, the canal, called an 'aixec' in Catalan, was crucial for irrigating the agricultural terraces carved into the mountainside during the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, hikers can still spot vegetable gardens growing potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes and onions along the route. The well-maintained, mostly paved path is part of the Anella Verda (Green Ring), a network of trails encircling Andorra la Vella. The Rec del Solà section stretches for approximately 4 km, offering an easy to moderate walk suitable for all ages and abilities. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Andorra la Vella, framed by the dramatic Pyrenean peaks. Several access points lead to the trail, with the most recommended starting point near the Sant Ermengol school. Interpretative routes along the trail provide insights into the valley's agricultural transformation, urban growth, and adaptation to natural hazards. A picnic area with tables and grills offers a perfect spot to relax and soak in the scenery. The trail offers a refreshing escape from the urban bustle, connecting visitors with the natural and cultural landscape just a few meters from the city center.
