Station de Ski de Porté-Puymorens, nestled in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, is a charming ski resort that offers a delightful blend of sporting adventure and serene relaxation. Part of the Catalan Pyrenees, the resort is named after the commune it resides in, a rural municipality with a small population. This location ensures a tranquil escape for those seeking respite from bustling city life. Founded in 1948 by Paul Boyé, the then mayor, the resort aimed to harness the consistently snowy mountain slopes to create a new ski area. Over the years, it expanded, with significant developments in 1966, including a new chairlift connecting Lac des Estanyols to the village. Today, the resort boasts 50 km of skiable terrain, with the highest point reaching 2,471 meters, making it one of the highest ski resorts in the area. The vertical drop of 900 meters provides thrilling runs for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Porté-Puymorens offers a variety of winter activities, with alpine skiing being the most popular. The resort features 35 slopes catering to different skill levels: 7 black, 6 red, 8 blue and 14 green. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, visitors can enjoy torch-lit descents, snowshoeing, and ski touring. The resort also has facilities such as a snow park, half-pipe, and freestyle area. Its unique location, close to both Andorra and Spain, has earned it the nickname "the three nations resort". The village maintains a traditional Pyrenean charm with stone buildings and a beautiful 18th-century church.
