Discover more about Casa de la Vall

Casa de la Vall, meaning "House of the Valley" in English, is one of Andorra's most iconic and historically significant buildings. Constructed in 1580 as a fortified manor house for the Busquets family, it embodies a blend of medieval and Renaissance architectural styles. Its stone exterior, adorned with wooden balconies, reflects both practical needs and artistic sensibilities of the time. In 1702, the Consell General (General Council) of Andorra acquired Casa de la Vall, transforming it into the country's parliament. For over three centuries, it served as the heart of Andorran parliamentary life and the seat of its courts. The building has witnessed pivotal moments in Andorra's political and social evolution. Inside, visitors can explore the Courtroom on the ground floor, where the Criminal Court of Andorra operated from 1702 to 2011, and the Council Chamber on the first floor, which features historical documents and flags. The Cabinet of the Seven Keys held Andorra's most important documents, requiring representatives from all seven parishes to be present to open it, symbolizing unity and equality. Although the Parliament moved to a new building in 2011, Casa de la Vall continues to host state events and remains a symbol of Andorran sovereignty.
