Discover more about Casa de la Vall

Casa de la Vall, or the House of the Valley, stands as one of Andorra's most emblematic historical structures. Constructed in 1580 by the Busquets family as a manor and defensive tower, it offers a glimpse into Andorra's rich past. Perched on a rock overlooking the Valira River valley, the building's architecture reflects its dual purpose as both a residence and a fortification. In 1702, the Consell General (General Council) acquired Casa de la Vall, transforming it into the seat of Andorra's parliament until 2011. For over three centuries, it was the center of Andorran parliamentary life and housed the country's courts. The building witnessed significant political and social changes, playing a pivotal role in Andorra's history. Inside, visitors can explore the Criminal Court on the ground floor, with its historic wooden furnishings. The first floor features the Hall of Lost Steps, adorned with original 16th-century wall paintings, the Council Chamber, and the "closet of the seven keys," safeguarding important historical documents. The second floor, once the attic, now serves as a multi-purpose hall. Outside, the main facade displays the Busquets family coat of arms and Andorra's traditional coat of arms, bearing the motto "Virtus, Unita, Fortior" (United virtue is stronger). The square features sculptures depicting key moments in Andorran history, such as the signing of the Pariatge and the 1993 constitutional referendum. The gardens at the rear offer panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
