Discover more about Pont de la Tosca

The Pont de la Tosca is a picturesque stone bridge located in the parish of Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra. Built in 1820, it replaced a pre-existing wooden bridge and has since become a symbol of the region's history and culture. The bridge spans the Riu Madriu, a tributary of the Valira d'Orient river. Constructed from granite, the bridge features a single, semi-circular arch. Its highest point reaches 10 meters above the riverbed. The bridge is small, with a length of only 7 meters. Originally, the Pont de la Tosca was the only route connecting Engolasters with Escaldes. Farmers and herders used it to transport grain and livestock, particularly to the Andorra-la-Vella fair. It also served as a crucial link between the lower parishes (Andorra-la-Vella and Escaldes-Engordany) and the higher parishes (Canillo, Encamp). This strategic importance likely led to its construction as a replacement for the earlier wooden structure. The bridge has been recognized as a cultural monument of interest since July 16, 2003. Today, the Pont de la Tosca is featured on the emblem of the Escaldes-Engordany parish.
