Discover more about Casa de la Vall

Casa de la Vall, or House of the Valley, stands as one of Andorra's most emblematic and historically significant buildings. Constructed in 1580 as a fortified manor for the Busquets family, its robust exterior reflects its original defensive purpose. In 1702, it transitioned to become the seat of the Consell General, Andorra's parliament, a role it maintained for over three centuries until 2011. The building's architecture blends medieval and Renaissance influences. The exterior features greyish stone, small windows, and a watchtower, evoking the feel of a miniature castle. The main facade displays the Busquets family crest alongside Andorra's coat of arms, bearing the motto "Virtus, Unita, Fortior" (United virtue is stronger). Inside, visitors can explore the Courtroom with its original wooden furniture, the Hall of Lost Steps adorned with 16th-century murals, and the Council Chamber. A highlight is the Cabinet of the Seven Keys, which safeguarded Andorra's important historical documents. Located in the heart of Andorra la Vella's old town, Casa de la Vall offers a glimpse into Andorra's political and cultural evolution. Although the parliament has moved to a new building, Casa de la Vall continues to host ceremonial events. Visitors can take a self-led tour with an audio guide or book a guided tour to delve deeper into the building's history and significance.
