Ram Head Peak: Southernmost Point of St. John
Hike to St. John's southernmost point for panoramic views, diverse landscapes, and a rewarding outdoor adventure in Virgin Islands National Park.
Ram Head Peak, marking the southernmost point of St. John in the Virgin Islands National Park, offers a rewarding hiking experience with stunning vistas. The 2.3-mile out-and-back trail is considered moderately challenging, typically taking around 90 minutes to complete. The best times to visit are between December and July, with early mornings and late afternoons recommended to avoid the midday heat. The trail begins at Salt Pond Bay, a 35-minute drive from Cruz Bay, where the main island ferry lands. The path leads along Salt Pond Beach, then transitions to a rocky path offering views of the water and bay. It continues through shaded trees to Blue Cobblestone Beach, characterized by large rocks and stones. The final ascent up the cactus-covered hillside involves switchbacks leading to Ram Head Point. At the summit, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of St. John's rugged landscape, the British Virgin Islands, and even St. Croix on a clear day. The unique geological composition of Ram Head, with its ancient rock formations, adds to the allure of this must-see destination.
