Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Driving
From Cruz Bay, the main town on St. John, drive east along either North Shore Road or Centerline Road towards Coral Bay. Turn right onto Route 107 at the Coral Bay sign and continue for approximately 4 miles until you see the parking lot for Salt Pond Bay on your left. Parking is free, but the lot fills up quickly, especially during peak season, so arrive early.
Taxi
Taxis are available from Cruz Bay to Salt Pond Bay. The taxi ride will take approximately 35-40 minutes. Confirm the fare with the driver before starting the journey. A taxi from Cruz Bay to Salt Pond costs around $30 for one person or $21 per person for two or more people. Arrange for a return pick-up in advance, as taxis do not routinely pass by the area.
Walking
From the Salt Pond Bay parking lot, walk down the dirt path for about 0.3 miles (5-10 minutes) to reach Salt Pond Bay Beach. Continue along the left side of the beach to the end, where the Ram Head Trail begins. Follow the trail markers to stay on the correct path.
