Public Transport
While St. John does have public transportation, it is not as direct or frequent as taxis. VITRAN buses travel along the North Shore Road, but a short walk from the bus stop to Trunk Bay might be required. The bus fare is $1 per person. Check the bus schedule in advance, as it may not align with your desired travel times.
Driving
If driving from Cruz Bay, take Route 20 (North Shore Road) for approximately 2.5 miles. Follow the signs for Trunk Bay. There is a parking lot at Trunk Bay, but it fills up quickly, especially during peak season. Parking is free, but arriving early is highly recommended. Be aware that roadside parking is also available, but exercise caution when walking along the road. There are no tolls on this route.
Ferry and Taxi
For visitors coming from St. Thomas, take a ferry from either Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook to Cruz Bay, St. John. The ferry from Red Hook is shorter and more frequent, costing $8.15 per adult and taking about 20 minutes. The ferry from Charlotte Amalie costs $13 per adult and takes about 45 minutes. Upon arrival in Cruz Bay, take a taxi to Trunk Bay (approximately $12 per person for single riders or $9 per person for groups).
