Middle Ground Trail: A Scenic Hike in English Harbour

The Middle Ground Trail, also known locally as the Goat Track, is a delightful hiking experience nestled in the heart of English Harbour, Antigua. This scenic trail meanders across the peninsula separating English and Falmouth Harbours, treating hikers to panoramic views of the turquoise Caribbean Sea, rugged coastlines, and lush tropical flora.The trail, approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) long, is well-marked and generally considered easy to moderate, making it suitable for both seasoned hikers and families seeking a leisurely outdoor adventure. The path winds along the headland and hilltop above Windward Bay, offering several historical sites along the way. Keep an eye out for the remains of stone buildings, including the circular One Gun Battery (Keene's) and Fort Cuyler, remnants of the area's original fortifications.As you traverse the trail, you'll encounter diverse terrain, from small wooded areas to open, breezy stretches. The openness of the trail provides cooling breezes, but be prepared for some exposure to the sun. The path culminates in breathtaking viewpoints, perfect for capturing unforgettable photographs of the Antiguan landscape. The trail was declared a Commonwealth Walkway in 2016 as part of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations.
