Sir Vivian Richards Stadium: A Modern Cricket Ground in Antigua

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, situated in North Sound, Saint George, Antigua, is a premier cricket venue dedicated to one of the greatest cricketers of all time. Constructed for the 2007 Cricket World Cup at a cost of approximately US$60 million, primarily funded by a grant from the Chinese Government, the stadium has a seating capacity of 10,000, which was temporarily doubled to 20,000 during the World Cup. The stadium features two main stands: the Northern Stand and the five-story Southern Stand, which includes the pavilion and corporate suites. The ends of the pitch were renamed in 2015 in honor of West Indian cricketers Sir Curtly Ambrose and Sir Andy Roberts. While generally favoring batsmen, the pitch tends to slow down as matches progress, offering opportunities for spinners. Located a 15-20 minute drive from St. John's and V.C. Bird International Airport, the stadium is easily accessible for international events.
