Discover more about Paseo del Rosedal

The Paseo del Rosedal, also known as the Rose Garden Walk, is a captivating garden located in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It forms an integral part of the larger Parque Tres de Febrero, often called the 'Bosques de Palermo' (Palermo Woods), the city's most famous green space. Spanning 3.4 hectares, the Rosedal is home to more than 18,000 rose bushes, representing over 1,000 different varieties. Visitors can wander through the garden's enchanting pathways, admire the vibrant blooms, and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. The garden also features 26 busts of poets and writers, a Greek bridge, and a charming Andalusian patio, gifted by the city of Seville. Originally, the land where the Rosedal now sits was part of the 'Bañado de Palermo,' belonging to Juan Manuel de Rosas. After Rosas was defeated in 1852, the land was expropriated, and landscape architect Carlos Thays designed the Parque Tres de Febrero. Later, between 1910 and 1914, the mayor of Buenos Aires, Joaquín Anchorena, commissioned the creation of a rose garden, inspired by Parisian gardens. The task was entrusted to agronomist Benito Carrasco, a student of Thays. The Rosedal officially opened on November 24, 1914, showcasing nearly 15,000 rose bushes of around 1,200 varieties. Over the years, the garden has undergone restorations, including significant work in the 1990s and 2008, ensuring its continued beauty and preservation of Carrasco's original design. Today, the Rosedal remains a beloved attraction for both tourists and locals. Key highlights include the Andalusian Patio, the Poet's Garden with sculptures of literary figures like Borges and Shakespeare, and the White Bridge, a wooden structure spanning the lake. Visitors can stroll along the paths, take boat trips on the lake, or simply relax amidst the stunning floral displays.
