The Palacio San Martin, located in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires, is a remarkable example of Beaux-Arts architecture. Designed by Alejandro Christophersen and completed in 1909, it was initially commissioned by Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena as a family residence. For two decades, it was known as Palacio Anchorena, hosting lavish social gatherings, including the commemoration of Argentina's Independence Proclamation centenary in 1916.In 1936, the Argentine government acquired the palace and transformed it into the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Relations. The architecture blends French academic and Bourbon styles, featuring classical elements, Art Nouveau details, and a mansard roof. Inside, visitors can admire works by renowned Argentine and American artists such as Antonio Berni, Pablo Curatella Manes, and Roberto Matta.
