The Inn is built over the Apache Springs Well, a natural spring discovered in 1877 by Lieutenant John A. Rucker and civilian tracker Jack Dunn. The spring provided water for the early settlers and miners, and a mine shaft was later built on the site, which then filled with water from the spring.
