Discover Sedona's hidden gem: Crescent Moon Ranch, where history meets breathtaking views of Cathedral Rock along Oak Creek.

4.6

Crescent Moon Ranch, also known as Red Rock Crossing, is a captivating destination southwest of Sedona, where the beauty of nature intertwines with a rich history. This 160-acre site, originally named OK Ranch, was established in 1880 by John Lee, a cattleman from Prescott. Lee recognized the potential of the land and began cultivating an apple and peach orchard, utilizing the waters of Oak Creek for irrigation. Over the years, the ranch changed hands several times, each leaving its mark on the landscape. In 1936, Andrew and Jane Baldwin purchased the property, renaming it Palo Bonito, and embarked on a mission to transform it into a showcase of agricultural innovation. They constructed a new ranch house in 1938 and installed a 12-foot water wheel to pump water and generate electricity. The Baldwins' dedication to their craft earned them recognition at county fairs, where their peaches were prized for their exceptional size and quality. As tourism began to flourish in Sedona, the ranch transitioned from agriculture to hospitality. In 1980, the U.S. Forest Service acquired the property, ensuring its preservation for public enjoyment. Today, Crescent Moon Ranch stands as a testament to the area's diverse past, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the tranquility of a bygone era. The ranch features a variety of attractions, including the historic Baldwin home, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Lee's original homestead barn. Visitors can explore the grounds, wander along the banks of Oak Creek, and marvel at the iconic views of Cathedral Rock, one of the most photographed scenes in the Southwest. The clear waters of Oak Creek invite visitors to cool off with a refreshing swim or wade, while anglers can cast their lines in hopes of catching a fish. Crescent Moon Ranch is more than just a scenic spot; it's a place where history, nature, and recreation converge. Whether you're seeking a peaceful picnic, a refreshing swim, or a glimpse into Sedona's past, Crescent Moon Ranch promises an unforgettable experience.
