Discover more about Weatherford Hotel

The Weatherford Hotel, located in the heart of Flagstaff, Arizona, is more than just a place to stay; it's a portal to the past. Built by John W. Weatherford, a native of Weatherford, Texas, the hotel first opened its doors on New Year's Day, 1900, quickly becoming a prominent fixture in the growing town. Constructed after a series of devastating fires that prompted the city to require brick, stone, or iron buildings in the business district, the Weatherford was among the first to meet these new standards, with its red sandstone facade becoming a recognizable landmark. In its early years, the Weatherford Hotel played a vital role in Flagstaff's development, serving as a hub for commerce and a welcoming stop for travelers along the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. The hotel attracted a diverse clientele, including notable figures such as artist Thomas Moran, publisher William Randolph Hearst, and author Zane Grey, who penned his famous novel "The Call of the Canyon" within its walls. The hotel also housed a restaurant, theater, billiard hall, and even a local radio station, solidifying its status as an entertainment destination. While the Weatherford Hotel experienced a period of decline in the mid-20th century, it was saved from demolition in 1975 by Henry Taylor and his brother Lloyd. Since then, Henry and his wife Pamela (Sam) have dedicated themselves to restoring the hotel to its original grandeur, undertaking extensive renovations to preserve its historic charm while incorporating modern comforts. Today, the Weatherford Hotel offers seventeen boutique hotel rooms, three bars/pubs with food, and venues for events. Guests can enjoy live entertainment and savor savory dishes while taking in views of downtown Flagstaff from the third-floor balcony.
