Dedicated on March 2, 2014, it is the 142nd operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the fourth in Arizona, following temples in Mesa, Snowflake, and Gila Valley.The temple's design incorporates a neoclassical style with a single, central spire topped by a golden statue of the angel Moroni. The exterior is clad in light cream-colored precast concrete and white quartz, creating a bright and inviting appearance. Art glass windows, featuring a motif of the agave plant, add a unique regional touch, symbolizing life, rebirth, growth, and abundance. The temple stands at 195 feet tall, making it one of the tallest buildings in Gilbert.Inside, the 85,326-square-foot temple houses three ordinance rooms, seven sealing rooms, and a baptistry. These spaces are reserved for sacred ceremonies and religious practices central to the faith. While the interior is not open to the general public, the meticulously landscaped grounds are open for all to enjoy. The grounds feature fountains, shaded plazas, and a variety of trees, shrubs, and flowers, providing a tranquil environment for contemplation.The announcement of the Gilbert Arizona Temple in 2008 was met with great excitement by the local Latter-day Saint community. During the public open house prior to its dedication, over 400,000 visitors toured the temple. The temple serves members from 26 stakes in the surrounding area, providing a dedicated space for worship and spiritual growth.
