    From anywhere in downtown Gilbert, head south on Gilbert Road. You'll pass shops and restaurants. Continue for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection of Gilbert Road and Elliott Road. HD SOUTH will be on your left at 10 S Gilbert Rd.

  • Public Transport

    Take Valley Metro bus Route 136 from the Phoenix area towards Gilbert. Get off at the stop nearest to Gilbert Rd and E Page Ave. From there, walk south on Gilbert Rd for about 10 minutes to 10 S Gilbert Rd. A single bus fare is $2.00.

  • Car

    From the US-60 highway, exit onto Gilbert Rd (Exit 180) heading south. Continue on Gilbert Rd for about 4 miles. HD SOUTH is located at 10 S Gilbert Rd. Free parking is available on-site.

HD SOUTH - Home of the Gilbert Museum, stands as a vibrant cornerstone in Gilbert's Heritage District. Housed in the original Gilbert Elementary School, built in 1913, it's the oldest building in Gilbert and the only one on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally the Gilbert Elementary School, which was closed in 1977, the building reopened as the Gilbert Historical Museum in 1982. HD SOUTH offers a multitude of experiences for individuals, families, school groups, and more. The Gilbert Historical Museum within HD SOUTH, chronicles Gilbert's history through photographs, artifacts, and oral histories. Exhibits include Gilbert Home Life, Generations, Farming, School & Community, Town, Military, a Model Train exhibit, and a Live Quilting Bee. The museum also hosts rotating art exhibitions, educational programs, and community events. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing early Gilbert businesses, the evolution of public safety, and artifacts from Gilbert's earliest families. The Military Exhibit honors Gilbert residents who served in the armed forces. The Model Train exhibit, in partnership with the Gilbert Model Railroad Club, depicts the railroad as it was around the 1950s through early 1960s. HD SOUTH also hosts events and offers facility rentals for weddings, reunions, and other gatherings. It serves as a cultural community foundation, hosting Gilbert-centric events throughout the year.
