Colossal Cave Mountain Park is located at 16721 E Old Spanish Trail, Vail, AZ 85641. From Tucson, take 22nd Street east to Old Spanish Trail and turn south, following it for approximately 17 miles to the park entrance. Alternatively, take I-10 east to exit 279 (Vail/Wentworth), turn north, and follow the signs for about 7 miles. Parking is available at the park. Limited parking can be expected during peak visitation times.

This 2,400-acre park is home to the Colossal Cave, a large cave system with approximately 3.5 miles of mapped passageways. The park also includes the historic La Posta Quemada Ranch, a working cattle ranch that dates back to the 1880s.The cave itself is a major draw, with guided tours that take visitors through its depths. The Classic Cave Tour is a family-friendly introduction to the cave's history, legends, and geology, descending six stories underground. For the more adventurous, the Ladder Tour involves climbing ladders and navigating narrow passages. The Wild Cave Tour offers a thrilling exploration of the cave's deepest and darkest corners.Above ground, the park offers a variety of activities, including hiking, horseback riding, and camping. Several trails wind through the park's diverse landscape, including a 3-mile section of the Arizona National Scenic Trail. The La Posta Quemada Ranch features a museum and research library, exhibits on the park's human and natural history, a butterfly garden, and a petting zoo.The park has a rich history, with evidence of human habitation dating back over 1,000 years. The Hohokam people used the cave as a temporary shelter as early as 900 AD. In the 19th century, train robbers reportedly used the cave as a hideout. During the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) made significant improvements to the park, including building roads, trails, and the stone building that now houses the café and cave shop. Today, Colossal Cave Mountain Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
