Dobbins Lookout: A Scenic Gem in Phoenix

Getting There

• Public Bus

  Start by heading to the nearest Valley Metro bus stop. You can check the Valley Metro website or use their app to find your closest stop. Take Bus Route 1 (Central Avenue) southbound towards the South Mountain area. Get off at the stop at Central Avenue and Southern Avenue. From there, transfer to Bus Route 67 (Southern Avenue) and continue eastbound. Ride until you reach the stop at 24th Street and Southern Avenue. After disembarking, walk south on 24th Street for about 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance to South Mountain Park. Once you enter the park, you can hike or walk the trails leading to Dobbins Lookout. Follow the signs within the park to reach the lookout point.

• Biking

  Rent a bike from a local bike-share program, such as Grid Bike Share. Start your journey from your location in Phoenix and head towards South Mountain Park. You can follow the bike lanes along Central Avenue heading south. Once you hit Southern Avenue, turn east and continue on the designated bike paths. Upon reaching the entrance to South Mountain Park, you can bike up to the Dobbins Lookout, following the paved road that leads to the lookout point. Ensure you check the bike paths for safety and follow all traffic rules.

• Walking/Hiking

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk or hike from the city to Dobbins Lookout. Start at the nearest public park or landmark in Phoenix, such as the Phoenix Zoo or Papago Park. From there, navigate to the entrance of South Mountain Park. Once inside, follow the designated trails leading to Dobbins Lookout. The hike is approximately 2.5 miles from the park entrance and can take around 1-1.5 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.
