Sahuaro Ranch Park: Glendale's Historic Oasis

Sahuaro Ranch Park, often called the "Showplace of the Valley," is a unique blend of recreational space and historical experience in the heart of Glendale, Arizona. This 17-acre park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, preserves the legacy of a once-thriving ranch dating back to 1886. Visitors can explore thirteen original historic buildings and structures, including the Main House, Foreman's House, and the Fruit Packing Shed, each meticulously restored to reflect their historical significance. The park's origins trace back to William Henry Bartlett and his brother Samuel Colcord Bartlett, who envisioned an agricultural empire in the Salt River Valley. They acquired land and water rights, establishing Sahuaro Ranch as a producer of citrus, olives, and other crops. Although the Bartlett brothers never resided at the ranch, they hired superintendents to manage the operations, which included raising livestock and cultivating orchards. Today, Sahuaro Ranch Park offers a variety of attractions for visitors of all ages. Wander through the rose garden, orchards, and barnyard, where you're likely to encounter the park's famous peacocks, descendants of those originally purchased in 1933.
