Discover more about Historic City Hall

Phoenix's Historic City Hall, located at 125 W Washington St, stands as an iconic landmark in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Constructed in 1929, this elegant structure exemplifies neoclassical architecture, boasting impressive limestone facades and grand columns.Originally, the building served as both the Maricopa County Courthouse and the Phoenix City Hall, a unique collaboration between city and county governments. This conjoined building addressed the growing needs of both entities in the early 20th century. The city's choice of architect, Lescher & Mahoney, oversaw the interiors, while the county's pick, Edward Neild, designed the exterior. The building housed city and county offices, with the county jail located on the fifth and sixth floors. As Phoenix expanded rapidly after World War II, the joint facility became too small. In 1957, the city approved a dedicated city hall, and in 1964, the county completed a new government complex. Today, the Historic City Hall is part of the Maricopa County administration complex, hosting special events and exhibitions. Nearby attractions include the Maricopa County Justice Museum and the Phoenix Police Museum.
