Alternatively, take the Valley Metro bus. If you are near the Central Station downtown, board the Route 1 bus heading west. Get off at the Washington St & 1st Ave stop. The building is located at 125 W Washington St, Phoenix, AZ 85003.Originally constructed in 1928-1929, the Maricopa County Courthouse and Phoenix City Hall was a joint effort between Maricopa County and the City of Phoenix. The courthouse was designed by Shreveport architect Edward Neild, while the City Hall portion was designed by the Phoenix firm of Lescher and Mahoney. The unified exterior is constructed of terra cotta and poured concrete with bronze and polished granite details and red clay roofing tiles.Inside, visitors can explore exhibits that narrate the history of Maricopa County. The courthouse grounds feature landscaped gardens, offering a backdrop for photos and strolls. The Maricopa County Justice Museum and Learning Center is located on the sixth floor, in a restored cell block where prisoners like Ernesto Miranda and Winnie Ruth Judd were once held. The museum showcases watershed moments in Arizona's legal history. The Superior Court still uses the building.The Maricopa County Courthouse reflects the growth of the State of Arizona and the City of Phoenix during the decades prior to World War II.
