Discover more about Sosa-Carrillo House

Step back in time at the Sosa-Carrillo House, a meticulously restored adobe home in the heart of Tucson. Built in the 1870s, this museum provides an immersive experience of life in 19th-century Southern Arizona. The house is named for the Sosa and Carrillo families, who were prominent residents of Tucson. Later, it was briefly leased by the family of John C. Frémont, a controversial figure who was an explorer, U.S. military leader, and Territorial governor of Arizona. The Sosa-Carrillo House exemplifies Sonoran and Territorial architectural styles, featuring thick adobe walls suited to the desert climate. Inside, you'll find period furniture and exhibits that depict the lifestyles of Tucson residents in the 1880s. The museum also shares the history of the Sosa, Carrillo, and Frémont families. The house itself is a near-exact replica of the original, as the original house was too dilapidated to save. Today, the Sosa-Carrillo House is managed by Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson and serves as a historical building and event space. It also houses the Mexican American Heritage and History Museum. The museum is surrounded by the Tucson Convention Center.
