Getting There

• Public Bus

  Start by locating the nearest Valley Metro bus stop. You can check the Valley Metro website or app for routes that lead to Scottsdale. If you are near the Scottsdale Waterfront, take the 72 or 81 bus towards the North. Get off at the stop at the intersection of N Scottsdale Rd and E Thompson Peak Pkwy. From there, it’s about a 20-minute walk to the Gateway Trailhead.

• Bicycle

  If you have access to a bicycle, you can ride to the Gateway Trailhead from various points in Scottsdale. From downtown Scottsdale, head north on the Arizona Canal Path. Once you reach E Thompson Peak Pkwy, turn left and bike west for about 3 miles until you reach the Gateway Trailhead. Be sure to follow local bike paths and lanes for safety.

If you are in the North Scottsdale area, walk north on N Scottsdale Rd until you reach E Thompson Peak Pkwy. Turn right and continue walking for about 1 mile until you reach the Gateway Trailhead. Look for the signs that indicate the entrance to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
