    Public Transportation

    If you're starting from downtown Tempe, head to the nearest light rail station, which is the Tempe Transportation Center. From there, take the Valley Metro Light Rail heading towards Mesa. Get off at the last stop, which is the Mesa Dr/Main St station. Once you exit the station, look for the local bus stop and board the route 72 bus heading north. Stay on the bus for about 10 stops until you reach the 'Scottsdale Rd & Bell Rd' stop. From there, you can either take a rideshare service or walk approximately 1.5 miles to the Gateway Loop Trail entrance.

    Bicycle Rental

    You can rent a bicycle from one of the bike-sharing stations in Tempe. Start at the Tempe Beach Park and head north on the Arizona Canal Trail. Follow the trail for about 4 miles until you reach the intersection with North Scottsdale Road. Turn right and continue heading north. After about another mile, you will arrive at the Gateway Loop Trail entrance. Make sure to park your bike securely before you start your hike.

    If you're up for a longer walk, you can start at the Tempe Town Lake and head north along the lakeside path. Continue walking north until you reach East McDowell Road. Turn right and follow McDowell Road until it turns into North Scottsdale Road. Continue on this road for about 3 miles.
