Getting There

• Car

  From your location in Tonto National Forest, navigate to Apache Junction, AZ 85119. If you are starting from the Tonto Basin area, take AZ-88 N until you reach the junction with US-60 E. Merge onto US-60 E and continue until you reach Exit 196 for AZ-88 N toward Apache Junction. Follow AZ-88 N until you arrive in Apache Junction, where you will look for trailheads such as the Superstition Mountain Trailhead. Parking is available at the trailhead, but may require a day-use fee of around $7.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, first check for local bus services that operate in the Phoenix metropolitan area, as Apache Junction is accessible via Valley Metro buses. You can take Bus Route 30 from Phoenix to Apache Junction. Once in Apache Junction, you would need to use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft to reach the trailhead at Superstition Mountain, as public transit does not reach directly to trailheads. Expect a cost of around $10-$20 for the rideshare depending on distance.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive at the Superstition Mountain Trailhead, you will find signage for Treasure Loop Trail #56. The trailhead is located at approximately 33.4592774 latitude and -111.477949 longitude. Follow the marked trail signs, which will guide you along the loop with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Ensure you carry sufficient water and wear appropriate hiking gear.
