To get to Bug Spring Trailhead on Mount Lemmon, start by finding the nearest Sun Tran bus stop in Tucson. Take Route 3 towards 'East Broadway'. After approximately 25 minutes, transfer to Route 29 at the 'Alvernon & Broadway' stop, heading towards 'Sabino Canyon'. This route will take you closer to Mount Lemmon. Get off at the 'Sabino Canyon' stop. From there, you will need to walk to the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area. The entrance to the canyon is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Once inside the park, to reach Bug Spring Trailhead, follow the signs and hike along the marked trails leading to the trailhead. It is recommended to check the bus schedule ahead of time for the latest timings.
Rideshare
For a more convenient option, you can use rideshare services like Uber or Lyft. Simply open the app and enter 'Bug Spring Trailhead, Catalina Hwy, Mt Lemmon, AZ 85619' as your destination. The drivers are familiar with the area and can take you directly to the trailhead. Keep in mind that it could take around 45 minutes to an hour to get there depending on traffic and time of day. Bicycle
If you enjoy cycling, you can rent a bike in Tucson. Start from downtown Tucson and head north towards the Catalina Highway. Follow signs for the bike lanes on Tanque Verde Road which will lead you to the Catalina Highway. The ride is approximately 30 miles and can take around 2-3 hours depending on your speed and stops. Once you reach Catalina Highway, continue until you arrive at the Bug Spring Trailhead. Be sure to wear a helmet and bring plenty of water for the ride.
