Watson Lake: A Desert Oasis Amidst Granite Dells

Watson Lake, created in 1915 by the Chino Valley Irrigation District, is nestled within the captivating Granite Dells, making it a picturesque destination near Prescott. The City of Prescott acquired the reservoir and surrounding land in 1997, preserving it as a recreational haven.This scenic lake offers a variety of activities, including fishing for carp, catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass, as well as boating, kayaking, and canoeing. Birdwatchers can explore the nearby Watson Woods Riparian Preserve, known for its diverse bird species. Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy the Peavine and Iron King Trails, which offer relatively flat terrain and access to the Granite Dells. Rock climbing is also a popular activity, with the granite cliffs providing excellent opportunities for top-roping and lead climbing.Visitors can enjoy amenities such as two boat launches, a courtesy dock, fish cleaning stations, picnic ramadas, and a playground. During the summer, overnight camping is available with restrooms and showers. Although swimming is not permitted, Watson Lake provides a beautiful setting for outdoor recreation and relaxation.
