Its history dates back to 1866 when the Kessler family purchased land and established what is believed to be Arkansas' first winery. While the family home is gone, remnants of their wine cellar and well can still be seen. Today, Kessler Mountain Regional Park is a multi-faceted destination. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy six lighted soccer fields and eight lighted baseball fields. A large playground, funded by the Rotary Club of Fayetteville, sits near the park's entrance. The park also features a 387-acre nature preserve with over 10 miles of trails for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. The park boasts approximately 20 miles of natural-surface trails, ranging from easy to very difficult, catering to various skill levels. The Cato Springs Trail, a 12-foot-wide concrete path, connects to the Razorback Regional Greenway. Popular trails include Last Call, Terrapin Station, and Crazy Mary. The park's trails are well-maintained and marked, though hikers should be aware of sharing the trails with mountain bikers.
