Discover more about Mount Magazine State Park

Mount Magazine State Park, encompassing 2,234 acres in Logan County, Arkansas, crowns the state's highest peak at 2,753 feet. This majestic plateau, rising dramatically from the Arkansas River Valley, offers visitors unparalleled panoramic views and a diverse range of activities. Inhabited since the 1850s, Mount Magazine's history is as captivating as its scenery. Originally part of the Ouachita National Forest in 1938, it was later re-designated as part of the Ozark National Forest in 1941. The mountain became a state park in 1998, after a 22-year conversion process. Evidence suggests Native Americans seasonally inhabited the mountain, with permanent settlements in the nearby Arkansas River Valley. The Homestead Act of 1862 brought settlers to the area, and the town of Magazine was platted in 1900. Today, Mount Magazine State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails, ranging from easy strolls to challenging treks, wind through the park's diverse terrain. The Signal Hill Trail leads to the highest point in Arkansas, while the North Rim Trail and Bear Hollow Trail offer stunning vistas. For those seeking adventure, the park offers mountain biking, rock climbing, and hang gliding opportunities. The Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail is the only multi-use trail in the park, accommodating hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. The Lodge at Mount Magazine provides comfortable accommodations with 60 guest rooms, the Skycrest Restaurant, and an indoor pool. Thirteen cliffside cabins offer a more secluded experience. The park also features a visitor center with exhibits on the mountain's geology, history, and wildlife. Whether you're seeking breathtaking views, outdoor adventures, or a peaceful retreat, Mount Magazine State Park offers an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Arkansas Ozarks.
