Discover more about Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, located in Bentonville, Arkansas, is more than just a museum; it's an experience. Founded by Alice Walton and designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the museum seamlessly integrates art with the natural beauty of the Ozark landscape. The museum's name reflects its unique setting, incorporating a nearby natural spring and bridge construction into its design. The museum's collection spans five centuries of American art, from early American to contemporary works. Visitors can view masterpieces such as Asher B. Durand's Kindred Spirits, Gilbert Stuart's George Washington, and Georgia O'Keeffe's Jimson Weed. The collection also showcases works by underrepresented artists, providing broad and inclusive stories of American art. Crystal Bridges' architectural design is a work of art in itself. A series of pavilions nestle around two spring-fed ponds, housing galleries, meeting spaces, and a glass-enclosed gathering hall. Large windows and open spaces offer continuous views of the surrounding forest and water features, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. The museum also features the Bachman-Wilson House, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home relocated to the museum grounds. Beyond the galleries, Crystal Bridges offers over five miles of walking trails through 120 acres of native Ozark forest. These trails feature outdoor sculptures and connect the museum to downtown Bentonville. The museum's arboretum boasts a diverse collection of native trees and plants. Crystal Bridges is committed to accessibility, offering free general admission to its permanent collection. The museum also provides a range of public programs, including lectures, performances, classes, and teacher development opportunities.
