Discover more about Historic Arkansas Museum

The Historic Arkansas Museum (HAM), originally known as the Arkansas Territorial Restoration, immerses visitors in the rich history of Arkansas. Founded in 1941 by Louise Loughborough, the museum preserves and interprets the state's early history and creative legacy. The museum encompasses a city block with several historic buildings, including the oldest building in Little Rock, the Hinderliter Grog Shop, dating back to 1827. Other notable structures include the McVicar and Brownlee Houses from the 1840s, and a reconstruction of the 1820s Arkansas Gazette print shop. The Plum Bayou Log House, an 1850s plantation house, was relocated to the museum grounds from Scott, Arkansas. Inside the museum center, visitors can explore galleries featuring Arkansas-made decorative, mechanical, and fine arts objects. Exhibits showcase a range of artifacts, from Native American pieces to contemporary art, providing insight into the state's cultural evolution. The museum also hosts regular changing exhibits and educational programs for all ages. Living history demonstrations, such as blacksmithing, sewing, and printing, further enrich the visitor experience.
