The Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center, operated by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), offers an immersive journey into the natural wonders of Arkansas. Opened in December 2008, the center is located in downtown Little Rock's River Market District, within the Julius Breckling Riverfront Park. Its mission is to educate the public about the importance of conservation in Arkansas. The center features a variety of exhibits, including large aquariums displaying native fish from Arkansas's natural divisions. Visitors can also observe American alligators and other reptiles rarely seen in the state. A timeline highlights the history of fish and wildlife conservation in Arkansas, showcasing the progress made in preserving these resources. The center also includes recreations of a bait shop and trapper's cabin, along with an extensive collection of vintage fishing lures. Visitors can explore the wildlife area from behind a glass wall and observe over 100 bird species along the riverfront. The William E. “Bill” Clark Presidential Park Wetlands, located east of the center, provides additional opportunities for wildlife viewing. The center is surrounded by native plant beds that attract various wildlife species. Education staff offer specialized school field trips, teacher workshops, and public programs throughout the year.
