Withrow Springs State Park, a 786-acre haven in the Ozark Mountains, offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by wilderness. The park is named after Richard Withrow, who established the area's first grist mill in 1831. The park officially opened in 1965. The park's key feature is Withrow Spring, which emerges from a cliffside and flows into War Eagle Creek. Visitors can explore the area's natural beauty through hiking trails, including the popular War Eagle Trail with its scenic overlook. The Dogwood Nature Trail is particularly beautiful in spring when the dogwood trees are in bloom. Recreational activities abound, including fishing for bass, catfish, bream, and perch in War Eagle Creek. From March to mid-June, War Eagle Creek is suitable for floating. Other amenities include a swimming pool (open during the summer), tennis and volleyball courts, baseball and softball fields, horseshoe pits, and a playground. The park also hosts interpretive programs and special events throughout the year, including stargazing excursions and fall concerts. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, such as deer, foxes, wild turkeys, groundhogs, bobcats, and river otters.
