Discover more about Lake Catherine State Park

Lake Catherine State Park, established in 1935, is a 2,180-acre recreational area located on the southern shore of Lake Catherine, approximately eight miles southeast of Hot Springs, Arkansas. The park's creation marked the beginning of a series of Arkansas state parks situated alongside major man-made lakes. The park's history is intertwined with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), who constructed many of the park's notable structures between 1935 and 1942. These rustic, native stone and wood buildings, including cabins, a former concessions building, and a bridge, exemplify the CCC's architectural style and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. During World War II, the park served as a rest and recreation facility for wounded servicemen. Today, Lake Catherine State Park is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and horseback riding. The park features 20 fully equipped cabins, 70 campsites, a marina, a swimming area, and several hiking trails. The Falls Branch Trail is a highlight, leading to a scenic waterfall. Park interpreters offer guided hikes, lake tours, and various programs throughout the year. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat in nature or an active outdoor adventure, Lake Catherine State Park offers a memorable experience steeped in history and surrounded by the beauty of the Ouachita Mountains.
