Discover more about Rabbit Foot Lodge

Rabbit Foot Lodge, located in Springdale, Arkansas, stands as a remarkable example of early 20th-century architecture, combining Ozark and Adirondack design elements. Built in 1908 for Dr. Charles F. Perkins and his wife, Edith Clark Perkins, the lodge is nestled on a hillside overlooking Dancing Rabbit Creek, within what is now J.B. Hunt Park. The lodge's construction is notable for its use of materials sourced directly from the property, including squared logs and local stone. This detail aligns it with the "Return to Nature" movement, emphasizing harmony between the built environment and the natural landscape. The architectural style is further distinguished by a series of pyramidal roofs, lending the structure a unique appearance that has been described as a blend of a Chinese teahouse and an Ozark mansion. Rabbit Foot Lodge gained further prominence when it was purchased by J. William Fulbright in 1934. Fulbright, who later became a U.S. Senator, resided at the lodge with his family until he relocated to Washington D.C. in 1946. During his time there, Fulbright made significant improvements to the property, including the addition of plumbing, a furnace, and landscaping. The lodge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Today, Rabbit Foot Lodge is owned by the City of Springdale and incorporated into J.B. Hunt Park, offering visitors a chance to explore its grounds and appreciate its historical and architectural significance.
